Live painting is a wonderful artistic addition to your wedding or event. A professional artist sets up a temporary studio at your venue, and works during the day, on the spot, on a custom and unique artwork. Whether that's a big painting in acrylic or oil paint, or guest illustrations in watercolour for example, that differs from person to person.
A live painter is two vendors in one: entertainment on the day itself (as a service) and offers a work of art that's a personal souvenir afterwards (physical product).
You're looking to hire a professional visual artist to capture your day? Great! Here are some steps from the general process:
1. Find one or two artists (for example, through our map or directory)
2. Inquire through their own website, usually they have a contact form with all the info they need to know if they're available for your date
Please note that we as the website moderators don't get involved in the booking process - we're just here to help you find people. All contracts, communications, payments are between you and the artist of your choice.
3. Usually, the artist can answer any questions you might have about their process and will write you an offer. Depending on how they work, you can communicate through email or get to know each other through a (video) call before you decide if you want to book.
Please note: most artists charge a retainer / deposit to secure your date. The amount or percentage differs from artist to artist, as well as payment options.
4. Closer to your date, the painter will check in with you for final details.
5. Enjoy your day! See your artwork come to life, right there on location.
With live painting, a painting is created during the celebration, and the subject is discussed beforehand between the client and the artist. This can be a canvas or linnen painting with acrylics or oils, but also a watercolour painting. Afterwards, the painting will belong to the wedding couple.
Guest illustration means that the artist creates several small drawings or paintings of the guests, which they can take home on the same day. Creative, personal wedding favours that won't be left behind.
